It’s been about a year since we “acquired” this plant and it finally gave us a glimpse of its beautiful flowers. I say acquired because there is actually a story behind how I got the plant.

I feel in love with this plant when I first saw it in friend’s back yard a few years ago. I was dying to plant one in my garden, but could not find it in any local nursery.
But one day we went to a private garden that only opens to the public a few times a year. There were so many people visiting that we had to park in makeshift parking lot they had on the neighboring lot. Low and behold when I get out of the car I realized we had parked right next to a huge angel’s trumpet bush. It was too tempting to resist so I snipped a small branch with a couple of leaves.
I propagated it in soil and viola, a year later the plant is huge and thriving, despite a recent hornworm infestation that affected it along with one of my baby papaya plants. It wasn’t actually really an infestation, it was just one huge hornworm that almost devoured the entire angel’s trumpet plant in a few days time. We spotted the culprit and escorted him out of our garden.
Here are some recent pictures after a few days of heavy rains when it bloomed like crazy.
It is so interesting how the flowers start off a pale yellow color and then slowly transform into a beautiful shade of bright pink.
Now I just need to keep this bush under control, they tend to grow pretty big if left to grow wild.
