Scotch blends were de rigeur for the majority of Americans until the late 1980s when single malts became globally known and appreciated after producers like Glenfiddich, Glen Grant, and Macallan had been pushing them for years. And while Scottish distillers swap single malts with each other for their blends, the Japanese often forgo this, typically choosing instead to create blends in house. Included in the range are expressions like Inchgower 27-Year-Old, Caol Ila 35-Year-Old (the oldest bottling ever produced from this Mackinlay's distiller), Caol Ila Unpeated 15-Year-Old, Mackinlay's and The Singleton Glen Ord 14-Year-Old. The atmospherically dark, damp interior of the warehouse and the temperature, humidity and climate of this environment provide optimum conditions for maturing the best quality Scotch Cragganmore whiskies. The survivors range from the thickly fruited spice of Aberfeldy and grassy Royal Lochnagar in the shadow of Balmoral, to the succulent honeyed richness of Dalwhinnie.
